One thing that we feel needed an improvement was the inline arbor press seating stem for the 7mm like of bullets. We wanted a stem that would use the datum of as close to the tangency of the ogive as possible as at this point of the bullet is the most critical. Why is it the most critical? Well that is the datum area that is going to contact the rifling of your barrel. The VLD and/or the standard stem that is available with other inline arbor press seaters does not contact anywhere close to the ogive on the bullets that we all use for competition and long range shooting.
We have also built specific tooling that matches the hybrid Berger Bullets ogive profile so that the stem is distributing more of the seating force pressure over a broader area of the bullet jacket to reduce the risk of any bullet jacket distortion during seating.
We have shown comparison of the VLD stem and our stem. The stem of ours touches the bullet profile .160" lower on the bullet than that of the VLD stem. We have also shown the contact patch difference. We manufacturer these with a 3/16" hex for the use of an Allen wrench over that of the screwdriver slot found on others.
